Teen stories set in the real world
YA contemporary focuses on everyday life, relationships, school, family pressure, friendship, identity, and growing up. In this category you can find realistic young adult fiction, often emotional, sometimes funny, and often centred on choices that feel close to real life.
A lot of the current stock leans toward romance, friendship, mental health, and coming-of-age stories. There are also books about grief, social issues, queer identity, and difficult home situations. Names that appear more than once right now include Jenny Han, Alice Oseman, and John Green, though stock may change.
This is a fairly broad YA section rather than a very tightly defined one, so you may also see some crossover with lighter romance, heavier issue-driven fiction, and a few school or college-set titles. If you want more focus on relationships, try YA Romance. If you prefer suspense and danger over everyday drama, see YA Thriller & Mystery.
Some titles here are well known and some are less so, but overall the category is about realistic teenage experience rather than fantasy worlds or historical settings. Stock may change as books come and go.
