He meets Nastenka, a young woman waiting faithfully for a lover who has promised to return. Over four nights and a morning they share their stories, hopes and disappointments, and a fragile, intense bond grows between them, only to be tested by reality and unrequited love. The tale is a poignant exploration of solitude, romantic idealism and the painful gap between dreams and life.

„Bobok” shifts to a more satirical, grotesque register. Its narrator, a down‑on‑his‑luck writer, lingers in a cemetery and begins to hear the conversations of the recently dead.
