“The Skies of Pern” by Anne McCaffrey is a later entry in the iconic Dragonriders of Pern science fiction/fantasy series, set on the dragon‑filled planet Pern, long threatened by deadly Threadfall from the Red Star. After the dragons have helped shift the Red Star’s orbit, it seems that the age of Thread is finally drawing to an end and a new era is about to begin. Yet stability never lasts on Pern.
