Drawing on forty years of service, former Chief of the General Staff Sir Richard Dannatt follows the army’s journey from victory over Germany on Lüneburg Heath, through the decolonisation of the British Empire, the Cold War, the Troubles in Northern Ireland, the Falklands War, the interventions in Iraq and the contemporary fight against terrorism.
